In today's post I'm going to present another goodie from one of my
foreign candy orders to you. This time it's about a sweet produced by the Wrigley Company or more precisely by their famous brand Skittles.
We can also get hold of Skittles in Germany but there are only a
few sorts available. The original Skittles Fruits as well as the Crazy Sours have been out for a longer time already and I just recently passed a supermarket shelf that held the Skittles Wild Berry which I hadn't seen before.
However, my internet research has shown me that there are many more creations available, especially in America, like the Skittles Confused/Riddles, Tropical, Darkside and Desserts.
Especially the last one tickled my fancy (which might also be due to the pink packaging) so I went on and purchased a 56,7 g / 2.0 oz pouch to give them a try!
This creation includes 5 different flavours which are all
named after a certain dessert creation.
Here are the 5 sorts reviewed in detail:
The shell of this one initially
tastes nothing but sweet and maybe a
little fruity. However, once you start chewing it, you can sort of taste the slight tartness that a blueberry would have. What I definitely miss to actually make this resemble a dessert, is the typical soft sweetness of a pastry, though. The flavour reminds me more of a
fresh berry jam which is very delicious, nonetheless!
At first, this flavour sounded quite promising to me but unfortunately I should be disappointed.
By no stretch of the imagination, has this more than a regular and boring lime flavour to it. Even if you might perceive the tartness of a lime, you certainly can’t
identify the necessary creamy and smooth note that would make this anything like an actual pie.
This flavour definitely has a sweet and tartish taste to it
that I’d expect from a raspberry flavour. However, I suspect that they only added the “Sorbet” to the name of this sort to make it
appropriate for this Desserts variety. It actually only tastes like a simple yet still delicious raspberry candy. Maybe you
can make it more like a sorbet by putting it into the freezer which I didn't
want to try for some strange reason.
You can definitely taste the orange
in this one! It has the typical tanginess of a citrus fruit which is perfectly softened
by a milky aftertaste which makes this flavour resemble the actual desert
pretty aptly.
Even the shell of this one seems
to scream strawberry to me - the flavour is really distinct, in my opinion! Once
you start chewing it, you can also perceive a creamy component that makes this
sort a worthy alternative to a real strawberry milkshake. This is my favourite one of them all!
All in all, you might not get overly special or innovative creations with the Skittles Desserts but it's still a pretty decent variety of citrusy, sweet and tart fruit flavours. I'd definitely repurchase them (if only the shipping wasn't so darn expensive)!
Have you see this creation before? What is your favourite kind of Skittles flavour? ☺
Such a different post, it's great :)

Thank you! ☺

DeleteYou know what really good? Putting these in jars of vodka.. SO GOOD!! <3 - www.domesticgeekgirl.com

ReplyDeleteHaha, at least I can imagine that they'd add a nice and bright colour to the liquid!
DeleteI never would have thought there could be an extensive blog post about candies and Skittles! We have them here in the Philippines but I think just the original variant? The one in red packaging.
ReplyDeleteThe pink one in this post, I've only encountered now. These are dessert flavored? Cool! I've always just known Skittles to be fruity-flavored, hehe. Think your post just made me crave for it, tbh. Question! Those photos of Skittles, per flavor, are they all from one pack? Is there an even amount of skittle(?) per pack? Like there's 8 pieces of Blueberry tart, and for the other 4 flavors it's also 8 pieces? :P
If I were in your shoes, and saw a candy that I really liked but know for a fact the local supermarkets and stores don't carry, I would be very excited too.. to the point I would make a post about it, very much like this one. I remember seeing Aero Bars in Hong Kong just last year while I was there and I HOARDED and brought them all back to Manila.
I noticed your sidebar has other candy-related posts, going to check them out now! <3
As a self-confessed candy lover, I definitely don't hesitate dedicating a whole post only about one kind of sweets :D
DeleteLuckily, Skittles have spread nearly worldwide so that you & I can enjoy it, too. And you're right: the original Skittles Fruits come in a red packaging ☺
The Skittles you can see in the pictures were all included in one pack so that there were much less pieces of Orange Cream than Raspberry Sorbet, for example. Although Orange Cream was much more delicious! :D
I'm lucky enough to have Aero chocolate here in Germany but I can totally understand your excitement - it's so yummy ^_^
I'm so happy to hear that you appreciate my candy-related posts! ♥

If you like fruity and chewy candies, then you'll certainly be a fan of these as well! ☺
DeleteHi Lena, I am now convinced that you are very passionate about candies, although I knew that already from previes post of yours! I didn't know Skittles have that many varieties.I do agree about shipping stuff from the U.S. sucks plus when you're lucky will have to pay customs tax on top. That just happened to me - though I bought a bargain, ended up broke due to shipping! hahaha.
ReplyDeleteLove this sweet post Lena, hope you are doing well. xxx

Haha, I am indeed a great candy lover! I always try to appreciate the small things in life, that can quickly be overlooked, a little more ^_^
DeleteI've already had bad luck with the taxes as well ... depending on your order, 19% of its price can definitely be quite a lot of money :\
I'm glad to hear you liked this post! ♥♥
These sound delicious! In the UK we have normal Skittles and you can get American import ones like these from special sweet shops but they really are so expensive. I'm tempted to try these though as the strawberry milkshake flavour sounds amazing! :)

The strawberry ones were definitely my favourite as well! ☺
DeleteIf I got the chance to travel to America one day, I'm sure that I would totally go crazy in their candy sections :D
