The city certainly doesn't offer a ton of different stores, but I really enjoy browsing around the little shops without the intention of necessarily buying anything.
Anyway, there is a very special place in Eckernförde that is definitely worth stopping by - especially for everyone that has a sweet tooth like I do! The place I’m talking about is in fact a candy factory (in German 'Bonbonkocherei') where you can see how the candies are made and also purchase a ton of different sweets. Although I should warn you: Especially on Sundays it’s really busy in there!
However, this place also includes a separate chocolate factory in an outbuilding which I stepped into as it was much less crowded. And let’s be honest: I prefer chocolate over wine gum and hard candies anyway.
For me, it’s always interesting to see which types of chocolate they have to offer when I go in there, as those tend to vary throughout the different seasons. For instance, you can get ‘apple-cinnamon’ in winter and something like ‘strawberry’ or ‘orange’ in spring and summer.
All of the different chocolates just look so nice and appetizing next to each other! ^_^
The store totally awakens my inner child: You can grab a little bag and a gripper, walk around looking at all the chocolates and pick those that appeal to you. In the end, a nice woman weighs the bag and you pay the respective price for your chocolates.
These are the chocolates that I ended up getting:
I pretty much liked all of them, but the 'dark chocolate & seasalt' one is probably my favourite. There seems to be something about the sweet + salty combination that just always appeals to me!
Do you also have a favourite 'Sunday-place' that you like to visit? I'd love to know your insider tips! ☺
Omg I can't believe this kind of place exists!!!! Too bad it's tooo far from where I am.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a kid's idea of heaven brought to life. I'm not too much of a kid at heart, but I do love me some chocolate! I like that they're presented in such a way that you just go around the area and start picking random pieces of each variant til you fill up a baggie, I suppose.
Dark chocolate + seasalt sounds like a delicious combination! I would try one too. :3
I totally agree, this is pretty much the place I've been dreaming of as a child (and maybe still do, haha)!
DeleteI noticed that lately many different brands started doing chocolates with some kind of salt in them , so maybe you could actually find something similar to my favourite pick ☺
I would love to go to a place like this! Looks so good. <3
ReplyDeletehttp://thehomeofkate.blogspot.com/
I certainly always enjoy going there! ☺
DeleteDo you want to know a little secret? Salt makes sweet things taste sweeter. That's why people put salt on their pineappale, for example. I don't remember the chemics behind it, but it basically enables you to taste more of the sweetness. That's why sweet & salty chocolates are so delicious. :D
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I totally want to go to that chocolate factory and buy allll the chocolates (and I'm not even a big fan of chocolate. These look to hard to resist). From the ones you got, I'd love to try orange one. Have you ever tried ginger chocolate? It's my favourite kind. Preferably from Hussel or Lindt.
My favourite places to be on sundays are either my bed or a flea market. Have to be honest though, I prefer my bed xD
Thank you for sharing this wonderful entry ♥

I think I've actually heard of this salt + sugar theory before! It kind of does make sense - I still remember my mother telling me to always put a pinch of salt into every sweet pastry as it's supposed to really enhance the whole flavour ^_^
DeleteI haven't tried ginger chocolate yet, though! Lindt is actually one of my favourite brands for chocolate but I think I haven't seen this flavour before, so I should really have a look out for it ☺
Also, I guess my bed ranks second on my list of favourite Sunday-places :D
I'm glad to hear you appreciate this post! ♥♥

It really is a dream for every chocolate lover! ^_^
DeleteYes, the shops being closed on Sunday is a little bit annoying, I get jealous every time when I hear people from other countries talk about their weekend shop browsing.
ReplyDeleteLindaLibraLoca: Beauty, Baby and Backpacking
I totally agree! That's also why I might get a little too excited when there's an all-day shopping Sunday in a town nearby ^.^

DeleteOmg it looks yummy! I wish I could eat it all hehe..

A chocolate factory would certainly make for a great home ... you should probably pay attention to your blood sugar level in that case, though :D
DeleteWow. Looks like heaven on earth. The chocolates are beautifully made. I like the design on the orange one. :]

Whoever has come there with me that day probably gets slightly annoyed at me because I could basically stay in there for hours as well ^_^''
DeleteOh my god. I love chocolates! That place looks heaven for me. Btw, my name is Gail. Hope we could be friends. :)
ReplyDeleteI imagine my personal heaven to look something like this as well, haha!

DeleteOh wow! Looks amazing and really, really tasty! What was the strawberry flavored one like?
ReplyDeletehttp://whoispesca.blogspot.ch
The strawberry one would actually have to be my second favourite of the ones that I got! It is based on white chocolate but has this real, distinct strawberry taste as well as a slight tartness to it - yuuumm! ♥
DeleteUmm drooling over here, these look soo good! The patterns on the chocolates are so pretty too! Dark chocolate with sea salt would be my favourite as well.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I love it when you speak German ;) haha! ❤
munchies&musings
The different patterns always appeal so much to me every time I go in there as well ☺
DeleteIt's funny to hear you liked the little bits of German that I throw in every now and then because I always feel kind of strange putting them into a text ^.^
Thanks! ☺

DeleteAlthough especially the pink and orange chocolates aren't exactly the most natural looking, the colourfulness still appeals to me as well ^_^
Lenaaa! Do you have Instagram or Twitter? I can't find it on your blog anywhere ;)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I actually haven't! I always thought that I wouldn't have anything that's interesting enough to post on there. Although it's not much different now, I'm thinking about creating an Instagram account soon. I'll be sure to let you know once I've done so! ☺

That's right, it's actually forbidden by law for most shops to open on Sundays. The only exception are really those seaside resorts or other tourism areas! ^.^
DeleteYummy!!!! I love chocolate :D
ReplyDeleteSame here! ^_^
DeleteI live in Germany and now I'd love to visit Eckenförde! :) As you say, it makes an ideal trip for a Sunday or a weekend or so. What's more, I am a total chocolate obsessor and this shop looks like the type of place where I could spend ages! Thanks for sharing! <3

ReplyDeleteHaha, I guess they always check more than just once that this doesn't happen! ^.^
DeleteI'm not a fan of chocolate, like at all really, but these look so tasty I might just reconsider haha.
